Simple Ways to Become More Healthy: Toxins

Toxins are harmful substances that are absorbed through the digestive tract or through your skin. Your body cannot digest or get rid of toxins all on its own; so many things can and need to be done to minimize and remove toxins in your body.

Unfortunately toxins are lurking everywhere...they are in your carpet, your couches, your water (drinking and shower, etc.), in personal products, in our air; I could go on and on. We have no control over some of these, while others we do have control over. Although its impossible to avoid all toxins, there are things we can do to minimize them BEFORE they come into your body, and ways to reduce them AFTER they come into your body.

Below are pictures showing some of the toxic chemicals that are in many cosmetics and personal care products. If you do some research, there are some great products out there that are toxin free (some I have personally tried are below). You can search on https://www.ewg.org to find great alternatives - I personally have the app, and it makes searching so easy!

My personal recommendations to reduce toxin exposure:

Personal care items:

Shea moisture - We use their shampoos/conditioners, and lotions; this brand is at most typical stores (Meijer, Target, etc). https://www.sheamoisture.com. I still check the labels on ewg.org to make sure it’s below a 2 rating before I buy it (this is currently where our family feels safe at).

Side note: One big thing to watch out for is “Fragrance” that is not made with Essential Oils, as it can have some real toxic chemicals in it otherwise that they don’t need to list on the label.

Mountain Rose Herbs (I use their face wash, soap, and rose cleansing scrub), we will likely buy more things they offer soon as we run out of things.

Hello and Himalaya toothpaste. Himalaya Toothpaste & Hello Toothpaste Kid - Our whole family (even our 7 & 9 year olds) use Himalaya currently, but some kids may not like the minty taste, so thats why I also recommend Hello Toothpaste.

Use essential oils instead of air fresheners. My favorite brand is Plant Therapy because of their affordability, but Young Living Essential Oils also has very high quality essential oils.

Home cleaning supplies:

Thieves cleaner by Young Living (you can make a ton of great cleaning supplies with this as your base).

I also love Norwex cloths for a lot of things too - I have only used their cloths., not their cleaning supplies, as I like other brands better based on their low-tox formulas. I personally use their envirocloths, the veggie & fruit scrub cloth, and their window cloth!

Make-up - Beautycounter. Having received the top award on the EWG website for safe, toxin free makeup and beauty products, I love knowing that what I am using every day is free from any harmful substances.

To reduce the amount of toxins already in your body - there are many things you can do!

-Dry brush before your daily shower to move your lymph! Dry Brush

-Do a functional medicine detox - The one myself and my husband did was this one - Functional Medicine Detox. It totally reset our bodies, prepped us for our lifestyle diet change, and as a perk I lost 10lbs and my husband lost 15lbs (this was actually toxin weight that we lost).

-There are many cleanses you can do as well - I can recommend safe ones to do; just reach out to me if you have interest!

-Take a sauna I highly recommend Sunlighten brand as this is the one we have. https://www.sunlighten.com. Make sure you mention my name, and you can get a small discount!

-Drink a full glass of freshly squeezed organic lemon water right when you wake up

-Buy a water filter that eliminates pathogenic bacteria, chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals, microorganisms, pharmaceutical drug contaminants, pesticides, and VOCs. The Berkley is an amazing place to get all of those things. Berkey Filters

-Buy an air filter that eliminates mold spores, bacteria, pet dander, VOC’s, smoke/cooking odors, allergens, and dust. You could also use nature-based items such as aloe Vera plants, bamboo palm, succulents, etc. We currently have this one for our own home: Air Doctor Pro

This is by no means an exhaustive list - I could literally keep going but will stop here for now! I hope this information helps!
