What is one simple habit you can adopt daily that will have a significant impact on your health?
Drink a smoothie every morning for breakfast!
I always need to know why I should be doing things, so it makes sense to me and so it gives me more motivation to do it. So I’ve listed 4 reasons why below!
You’re dehydrated when you wake up. Because you have fasted over night, you will need a lot of water in the morning, and a smoothie will quench that thirst since there’s usually water or nut milk on them. Don’t use milk/dairy as that can deteriorate your gut health.
It’s easy to digest! Did you know that 30% of your energy goes to digestion? Why not start our your morning ahead of the game and pick something that doesn’t require a lot of digesting? Smoothies are already broken down from the blending process, so that’s why they are a great choice! I want to mention that you should drink the smoothie over a 1 hour duration - this is to reduce blood sugar spikes (which can cause premature aging), and also eases up on the digestion process even more.
It’s better than fasting for many people! This is because many people have stressful mornings. If you don’t eat breakfast, and do a lot of running around in the morning (ie. getting kids ready for school, driving to work in traffic, getting lunches packed, etc.), it can put your body into fight or flight mode, which is not good for your overall health. Flight or flight mode affects many important functions in our bodies, including digestion (it slows it down drastically). When your body is in fight or flight mode too long, it can affect your hormones and gut function over time.
It brings in a ton of vitamins and minerals in your body right away, giving you more energy for the day! This energy is key, because it helps you make healthier choices for the remainder of the day - taking that walk during lunch, choosing the healthier food, etc.
