To Detox or Not to Detox?

Why do I keep hearing about the word “Detox” lately?

Well, it is part of our lives every day, believe it or not! Your liver is your primary source for detoxification - it filters all of your blood every 6 minutes, and moves the resulting waste (toxins) outside of your body. Although it is a very strong organ, it can be overburdened by our every day lives.

The things I mention below, can all build up and overwhelm your liver:

-Poor food choices (sweet snacks, pop, processed foods, etc.)

-Excessive alcohol intake

-Air pollution (chemicals in your carpets, couches, cars, any solvents, aerosols, etc.)

-Personal care items (phthalates, parabens, fragrances, etc.)

-Water pollution (fluoride, heavy metals, bacteria, VOC’s, etc.)

-And finally STRESS!

Did you know that we are exposed to over 84,000 man made chemicals on a routine basis? Your liver has to filter all of this…so as you can imagine – it can get overwhelmed!

Think of it like this – your body is like a rain barrel that when full, the water will just overflow over the top, spilling out onto the surrounding ground. It needs to be dumped out to start collecting water again. In the same way, our liver needs this “dumping out” periodically!

This is where liver detoxification comes in – it gives your liver a break, so it can start fresh and run more efficiently!

How do I know if my liver is overtaxed?

Well, if you have any of these symptoms, you likely need a liver detox!

-Excessive fatigue

-Hormone imbalances (Acne, lower libido, menstrual cycle imbalances

-Bloating of the stomach, or gas

-Seasonal allergies

-Poor sleep (not falling asleep, or waking up in the middle of the night)

-Brain fog

-Irritability

-Constipation

-Headaches or migraines
