6 Simple tips to increase your steps daily!

Walking is one of the best (and one of the most underrated) forms of exercise you can do at any age. I know it sounds easy, and like it might not do much for you, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! The average person gets in about 3,500 steps a day, where we need to get up to about 10,000 steps.

Walking gets you in the habit of doing something physical every day. It gets you outside to take in some fresh air , which is also good for you and stress levels. Add in listening to a podcasts or music you love as well, and you will feel even more mental benefits! Walking actually helps retain muscle mass as well, and it’s healing for your body. It is beneficial for your joints, muscles , bones, brain , and mood, to name a few! Walk at a pace that allows your heart rate to rise up, but keep to a pace you can maintain for the entire time.

How to work in 10,000 steps a day:

1. Walk first thing in the morning

2. Walk after meals (this helps you digest your food better!)

3. Walk during meetings if you can (I sometimes walk in place during my virtual meetings when my camera is turned off)

4. Walk in place during commercial breaks or even during the show/movie

5. Park further away from the store/office/etc.

6. Add ~400 steps each day until you hit 10,000, and you can go even more if you want! If that pace is too fast for you personally, build your way up a little slower.
